Say what you do

The first screen has one job: tell the right person what this is.

Headlines and hero messaging

BeforeWhere craft meets comfort

After · fictionalHandmade wool blankets, woven in Korçë

Why it works

Name the thing and the person it's for. Save the mood for the line underneath.

Used in: What this is on 6 blueprints

Value propositions and positioning

BeforeWe provide high-quality accounting solutions for businesses of all sizes.

After · fictionalBookkeeping for restaurants: we reconcile your till and supplier invoices every week, not every quarter.

Why it works

Say what you do differently, in terms a competitor couldn't copy without lying.

Benefits versus features

BeforeDual-zone climate control with 12 programmable settings.

After · fictionalKeep the bedroom cool and the living room warm. Twelve settings, programmed once.

Why it works

A feature is what it has. A benefit is what changes for the reader. Lead with the second, prove it with the first.

Pages with a job

Each kind of page answers a different question. Write to that question.

Service and product pages

BeforeOur comprehensive service covers all your needs.

After · fictionalA deep clean covers kitchen, bathrooms and floors. Two cleaners, about four hours, fixed price before we start.

Why it works

Answer the buyer's questions in the order they ask them: what is it, what's included, what does it cost, how long, what next.

About pages and storytelling

BeforeFounded on a passion for excellence, our journey began with a dream.

After · fictionalI started fixing phones in my parents' shop in 2016. Now there are three of us, and we still test every repair before you collect it.

Why it works

An about page answers 'can I trust these people with this?' Tell the part of the story that answers it.

Earn belief

Claims cost nothing. Evidence is what people check.

Testimonials and case studies

Before“Amazing service, highly recommend!” — Happy customer

After · fictional“The quote didn’t change once they opened the wall.” — Mirela, Tirana (fictional example)

Why it works

A useful testimonial is specific about one moment, in the customer’s own words, quoted with their permission. Never write one for a customer.

Used in: What clients say on 6 blueprints

FAQs and answer-first content

BeforeQ: How much does it cost?
A: Great question! Pricing depends on many factors…

After · fictionalHow much does a kitchen fitting cost?
Most of our kitchens cost €4,000–9,000. Worktop length and appliances change the price most.

Why it works

Use the customer's question as the heading and answer it in the first sentence. Then explain.

Used in: Questions people ask on 4 blueprints

The small words

Labels, buttons, errors and spacing decide whether people finish.

Forms, errors and empty states

BeforeError: invalid input.

AfterEnter a phone number with the country code, like +355 69 000 0000.

Why it works

Say what went wrong and how to fix it, next to the field, in plain words.

Hierarchy and scannability

BeforeWe fix bikes and sell parts and we are open most days except Sundays and holidays, and prices depend on the job, so call us or just drop in and we will have a look.

After · fictionalWhat we fix: punctures, brakes, gears.
When: Monday to Saturday, 9:00 to 18:00.
Prices: a puncture is 500 lek; we quote anything bigger first.

Why it works

Most visitors scan. Headings, short paragraphs and lists let them find their part.

Tone of voice

BeforeAMAZING DEALS!!! Don't miss out on our INCREDIBLE offers!

After · fictionalThis month, winter tyres fitted for the price of the tyres.

Why it works

Tone is decided by what you leave out. Pick three things you'd never say, and hold to them.

Search and AI answers (SEO)

Search engines and AI answers tend to reward what readers already want: plain words and specific facts.

Page titles and meta descriptions

BeforeHome | Welcome

After · fictionalEmergency plumber in Tirana | Ujëzot Plumbing

What it is, and why it works

The page title is the headline of a search result and the name on the browser tab. The meta description is the short paragraph under that headline. Neither appears on the page itself: both live in the page's code, as <title> and <meta name="description">, so ask your coding agent to write them for every page. Search engines cut long ones off at the width of the results, so put the words that matter first.

Emergency plumber in Tirana | Ujëzot Plumbing

Burst pipe or boiler down? A plumber reaches most of Tirana within the hour, at a fixed call-out price agreed before work starts.

  1. Page title the headline people click
  2. Meta description the paragraph under it
A search result, drawn; the business is fictional.

The title says what the page is, in searchers' words. The description is the reason to click. Google may rewrite both.

Search intent and topic coverage

BeforeLocksmith Tirana locksmith. Best locksmith in Tirana for locks.

After · fictionalLocked out in Tirana? A locksmith reaches you within the hour, day or night, for a fixed call-out price.

Why it works

Write the page that answers what the searcher wanted, not the page that repeats what they typed. A response time or a fixed price goes on the page only if the business can keep it.

Structured data and semantic clarity

BeforeFind us in town. We’re open most days.

After · fictionalFurra Hana bakes in Korçë every night; the shop is open Monday to Saturday, 7:00 to 13:00.

Why it works

Put the facts on the page in plain words first: name, place, hours. Structured data then restates exactly those facts for machines, and never adds one the page doesn’t make.

Improve what's live

Copy is a hypothesis until real visitors have read it.

Conversion friction in the words

BeforeContact us for more information about our courses.

After · fictionalYour first Italian lesson is free. Classes run 18:30 to 20:00, and you pay month by month, so you can stop any time.

Why it works

People stall on unanswered questions: how much, how long, what if it doesn’t suit them. Answer them before the button.

Testing and iterating copy

BeforeNew homepage is live!

After · fictionalTest: button “Contact us” becomes “Book a same-day visit”. Everything else stays. We expect more bookings. We count booking requests, not clicks, and review the results after four weeks. We only draw a conclusion if the data is sufficient.

Why it works

Change one thing, write down what you expect, and measure it on real visitors. Count the result reliably and wait for enough visits to tell; a small site may need longer than a few weeks. Copy advice, including ours, can’t tell you what will convert.

When the words aren’t the question

Writing for search is above, under Search and AI answers. Checking how it went is a different job: whether Google has indexed a page, how many people search for a topic, whether an AI assistant cites you, where visitors leave. Resources lists the tools for each, free first.
