Licensing and attribution
What you may do with what is on this site, and who the underlying material belongs to.
In short
A summary. The sections below say it in full.
- The posters, pages and scholarship the records cite belong to their institutions and authors. Nothing here relicenses them.
- 48 of the 50 sources with a recorded license require attribution.
- The structured records are our editorial work.
The source material
The 73 Aesthetics in the collection cite 1,042 sources between them. Licenses are recorded one source at a time; these are the 50 recorded so far.
- proprietary
- 38 sources
- unknown
- 8 sources
- cc by sa 4 0
- 3 sources
- cc0
- 1 source
48 of those 50 require attribution, and the text they require is stored with the source rather than paraphrased. Anything you take from a record that rests on one of them carries that requirement with it.
Who owns what
- The source material (posters, pages, artifacts and scholarship) belongs to the institutions and authors listed under Sources. Nothing here relicenses it.
- The structured records (the rules, postures and claim addresses) are our editorial work, built on top of that material.
Our reading, and a source
Anything marked ours is our reading rather than a claim from a source. That distinction matters most when you are deciding what you can reuse.
Search engines and crawlers
This build is public and search engines may index it. robots.txt admits every crawler, including AI crawlers. Pages that are still being built carry noindex, and so do the data files.
The machine-readable files
The records are also published as JSON and as Markdown guides for coding agents; Developers lists them. No license for these files has been published yet. The sources inside each record keep their own terms, as above.
