Accessibility

What we aim for, what we have checked, what still gets in the way, and how to tell us.

In short

A summary. The sections below say it in full.

  • Our goal is WCAG 2.2 level AA. That is a target, not a claim that we meet it.
  • Keyboard, reflow, contrast and reduced motion have been checked on the shared layout and a sample of pages.
  • Nothing has been tested with a screen reader yet.
  • If something gets in your way, tell us at hello@aesthetary.com or with the Feedback button.

What we aim for

We're working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the site. We haven't reached it everywhere, and this page doesn't claim we have. It lists what we have checked ourselves, and what we haven't.

What we checked, and how

On 8 October 2026 we checked the layout every page shares (the side menu, the Help menu, the mobile menu and the Feedback button) and a sample of pages: the home page, a stage, a skill, two Aesthetics, the patterns index, Resources, Favorites, Mix, Contact and these legal pages.

  • Automated checks with axe-core in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit, at 1280, 768 and 375 pixels wide, in both the dark and the light theme the site had then./li>
  • A keyboard-only walk through the side menu, the Help menu, the mobile menu, the introduction dialog and the Feedback form.
  • Zoomed reflow at 320 pixels wide, the width that 400% zoom gives on a typical laptop.
  • The reduced-motion setting.

What works

  • Every page has a "Skip to content" link, one main heading, headings in order, and labeled regions for the menu, the search and the page content.
  • Everything in the shared layout can be reached and used with a keyboard, and shows where the keyboard focus is.
  • The mobile menu, the introduction and the Feedback form close with Escape and return focus to where you were.
  • Pages reflow to 320 pixels wide without sideways scrolling.
  • With reduced motion set, the pages we checked show no running animation and no playing video.
  • Text in the shared layout meets the AA contrast ratio. The site has one, dark theme.

Known problems

  • On Mix, on a phone, two rows that scroll sideways can't be scrolled with a keyboard.
  • The Feedback form doesn't hold keyboard focus inside it: pressing Tab past its last button moves on to the page behind.
  • The Aesthetic pages each have their own designed opening. Only two of them have been checked so far.

Not tested yet

  • Screen readers: VoiceOver on Mac and iPhone, NVDA and JAWS on Windows, TalkBack on Android.
  • Safari on a real Mac and iPhone (our WebKit checks are not the same thing).
  • Windows high-contrast mode, text-only zoom to 200%, and voice control.
  • Captions and transcripts for the Learn videos.

Tell us about a barrier

If something on Aesthetary is hard or impossible to use, write to hello@aesthetary.com, or press Feedback on the page where it happened and point at the part that's in the way. Say what you were trying to do and, if you like, what you use to browse (a screen reader, magnification, keyboard only). Feedback is anonymous; if you'd like a reply, use email.
