Aesthetary gets better when people who know a tradition, a source or a page tell us where it’s wrong. Here is every way to help today, and what happens to what you send.

Offer a review

Ways to help 7

  • 17 Aesthetics wait for review

  • A claim, a source, an archive

  • Love it, close, or hate it

  • A visual language we’re missing

  • For Learn or Resources

  • On any page, anonymously

  • Research, teach or practice

Review an Aesthetic from inside its tradition

17 Aesthetics have newer research waiting for review by people with the standing to judge it. If you have that standing, this is the help we need most.

What happens

Only Annie reads offers; none is published. An offer is deleted automatically 12 months after you send it, or sooner if you ask. Sending one doesn’t make you a reviewer; if you later review and agree to be credited, that is asked separately.

Correct a record, or send a source

A claim that is wrong, or right for the wrong reason. The most useful version names the record and what the evidence actually says. Primary material, archives and scholarship are welcome too, especially for claims with no source attached yet.

What happens

Corrections arrive by email and are not published.

React on an Aesthetic’s page

Every Aesthetic page takes a verdict: love it, close but needs work, or hate it.

What happens

Verdict counts are public as soon as you vote. Which browser voted which way is not.

Suggest an Aesthetic or an Element

A visual language we are missing, and why it is distinct from what the corpus already holds.

What happens

Suggestions arrive by email and are not published. Sending one isn’t a promise that it will be researched. A suggestion that is taken up goes into research and cultural review before anything about it is published. A suggestion alone earns no credit: a name appears on a published Aesthetic only for research work on it, such as sources, review or corrections, and only with the person’s consent.

Suggest a skill, a guide or a resource

Something you have learned that belongs in Learn, or a tool, library or reference that belongs in Resources. Say what it teaches or what it is for, and where it lives.

What happens

Suggestions arrive by email and are not published. Sending one isn’t a promise that it will be added.

Tell us what works and what doesn’t

Something confusing, broken, or worth keeping, on any page. You can point at the part you mean.

What happens

No name or email is asked for, so a note is anonymous. Only Annie reads notes, and they are deleted after 12 months.

Work with us as an expert

If you research, teach or practice in a tradition the corpus covers, the place to start is a conversation.

What happens

There is no program or application; it starts with an email.

About

Agency production taught me how a website gets made when strategy, design, development and SEO each sit with a different specialist. Now I do all four myself: I work out what a site has to do, then design it, build it and keep improving it after launch. I founded Aesthetary to teach that whole process, because I couldn’t stop asking why it didn’t already exist.
